Ekdysis

Transformed — Arzawan / Basilean

Those of Arzawan and Basilean descent carry two ancient traditions that arrived at the same recognition through very different paths. One came through ecstatic sacred ritual in which the god moved through the body and what emerged was understood as a new and consecrated person belonging wholly to the goddess. The other came through deliberate family choice that opened doors to sacred scholarship and imperial authority that neither Heliac nor Selenic could access. Both traditions recognized the same truth: that when a person crosses a threshold they cannot uncross, what emerges on the other side is its own complete and named thing. These practices belong to another age, as do the practices that once defined Verkferð — but the truth underneath them found new life the moment the first Dreamers stepped through the Gates of Horn and Ivory. The Ekdysis are those for whom the dream crossing is not metaphor and not adventure — it is the most honest thing they have ever done. They carry one gender in the waking world of Valdara and cross deliberately, by magical choice, into another in the dream. The dream does not grant them a costume. It grants them the form the waking world never had language or permission for, and the ancient traditions gave that a name because they understood that transformation creates something real. You are this, by the most sovereign choice a Dreamer can make.
